Finalists for the 2019 Gurney Norman Summer Fiction Contest

1st Place: “Someone Simple and Kind” by Amarlie Foster.

Judge Andrew Malan Milward says of the winning story:

“I loved the complexity of the situation. The conflict and personal dynamics of the trio of women at the heart of the story is fascinating. The story is deceptively simple, unfolding at a quick pace in just over 13 pages, and is guided by a strong emotional and intellectual intelligence. Congratulations to the writer of this impressive piece of fiction.”

“Someone Simple and Kind” appeared in our October 1, 2019 issue.

2nd Place: “Heliographs” by Jared Green came out on September 15, 2019.

3rd Place: “Debut” by Raisa Tolchinsky came out on September 1, 2019.
